Susan Hagstrom has recently culminated a 33-year career in advising and student support at prestigious public higher education institutions. Currently on a sabbatical, she is contemplating her next professional venture.
With an educational background that includes an MA in Educational Psychology from the University of Minnesota, a BA in Psychology and English from St. Olaf College, and multiple certificates in Gerontology from Portland Community College, Susan brings a wealth of academic knowledge and experience to her roles.
Throughout her career, Susan held various key positions at the University of California, Berkeley, such as Manager of Advising Strategy and Training, Director of the Office of Undergraduate Advising in the College of Environmental Design, Assistant Director of Advising in the College of Letters and Science, and Policy and Planning Specialist/College Adviser in the College of Letters and Science.
During her professional journey, Susan also served as a Certified Career and Life Coach in her private practice and held roles such as Senior Administrative Analyst/Staff Intern in the Chancellor's Immediate Office and Academic Adviser in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota.

After a 30-year career supporting the students, staff, and faculty of UC Berkeley, I am now officially retired from the university. It has been a wonderful, up-and-down, full-of-learning ride and I am deeply grateful to have worked with such creative, compassionate, brilliant, and loving folks for all these years. This week I received the Chancellor's Outstanding Staff Award... as well as some popcorn, sparkling cider, a beautiful carved bear, and delicious cookies that bear a striking resemblance to our Chancellor! I am so touched by this honor and am grateful that I get to support our compassionate, wise, creative, professional advising and student services staff at UC Berkeley. Our students are in good hands. (Huge gratitude and appreciation to Andrew, Liza, Leslie, and Rhiannon and to the CSAC team that hosted such a beautiful ceremony - thank you!!!)
