My mom was born at the beginning of the WWII and grew up in a small village with no electricity. She got up at the crack of dawn and walked to school for miles every day as a child. My mom went on to study math and physics at a university, taught math to other kids in schools and eventually rose to be a finance executive at a prominent company. When I was growing up, she always put my education first and who I am today is largely shaped by the amazing educational opportunities I was fortunate to have. That’s why I am excited to travel next month with my teenage daughter to a rural community in Nicaragua to help build a school there along with the nonprofit organization buildOn.
