I bid you adieu..
Many times in life, things don't go as planned. We need to accept that. In these challenges lie opportunity for those who want it.
I started my college career, and due to financial hardship, moved back to my hometown. I had no idea that this would mean taking 25 units a semester, while working 30 hours a week to graduate in 4 years with little debt. Fast forward a couple years, 3 schools, and 2 degrees later, and I had done what college advisors said was impossible.
Working in restaurants, customers asked what I want to do when I "grew up". I told them "Sell my soul to software sales in my 20's, then run my own business in my 30's". Entering software sales as an AE, with no prior experience is rare. After over 50 interviews, that became my reality at 21 years old.
Once I had sold my soul to software sales, a new challenge arose. While I am proud of who I am, where I came from, and thankful for my upbringing, this was an impediment. I learned that one was not like the other. I was the minority. I'm not a "sales bro", I don't have a lake house, and I am not loud or outspoken. None of these are necessary for success, but being none of these didn't help. While I saw successes in my sales career for over half a decade, this was not where I am called.
So what's this new challenge that's actually an opportunity?
The challenge is to diversify, and the opportunity is to create. Life has never been easy, and I'm grateful for who I am. I am gritty, thoughtful, adaptable, and I am resilient. The opportunity to diversify my skills has come, and I've gladly accepted it.
No change is ever easy, and I cannot credit any of my successes without support.
I want to thank Ahryun Moon and Jasper Sone for introducing me to the amazing world of Talent Acquisition. Frank Zhang and Adam L. for being the big brothers I never knew I needed. Adam Gefkovicz and Ben Herman for validating how important I&D truly is. Jonathan Zoob for teaching me the importance of structure. Tariq Meyers for always keeping it real, you are my FairyGodFather! And a HUGE thank you to all the wonderful teammates I've grown to call friends.
So, as my first post on LinkedIn, I thank you all for your specialized contributions, as I start my new challenge. If life has taught me anything, it's that nothing is easy, but the journey itself is the best reward.
