Business ↔️ Music (Some thoughts for a Friday afternoon)
I try to clear out my Friday afternoons for just doing music (not that I don't play every day!).
It's always been one of the most important areas of my life, and I know it will never change. A couple of years ago, I wouldn't believe that I could start a business, and "business" was a very serious word to me - something completely different from the world of music and creativity.
In fact, doing music and running a business aren't that different. I'm starting to realise, that music helped me develop many qualities which are helping me in business. Let's have a look...
Discipline. Just like you have to practice an instrument daily to get somewhere, you have to be very disciplined in running a business.
Perseverance. If I had a penny for every moment of doubt and feeling my music is s***... ... and Noisy Creations won't work. You need to push towards your dreams every day (and sometimes even all day 😉 ).
Resilience. Facing rejection and criticism is common both in music and business. Having my music rejected so many times helps me be more resilient, stay motivated and bounce back from failures.
Patience. You can't become a great musician overnight, and so you can't build trust, connection and sustainable business. Just like taking lessons and slowly developing your music skills, building a brand takes small, consistent steps and a strategy.
Creativity. My music is a constant change and experiment, and so is Noisy. It doesn't mean that it cannot be defined or we change our services every day, but the development of new ideas and solutions is an everyday task.
Collaboration. I love playing music at home or just by myself, or even playing solo concerts. But there's nothing that can replace human interaction and collaboration. And in business? To quote Steve Jobs - “Great things in business are never done by one person; they’re done by a team of people.”
Sometimes it’s invaluable to write your thoughts down to realise the value of something you have in your own life.
If you made it to this point, thank you for reading and have the best weekend ahead!
