Tara Williams

English Professor

Tara Williams is a dedicated English instructor with a rich background in teaching at both high school and university levels.

Currently employed as a full-time English instructor at Mohave Community College in Arizona, she teaches English composition, literature, and creative writing courses through various modalities including classroom, remote, and online.

Tara completed her Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing Fiction at Fresno State University in December 2018, while also teaching undergraduates in the same field.

With a decade of experience in teaching high school English and related subjects, Tara transitioned to university-level teaching after completing her educational journey, which culminated in an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Fresno State in 2012.

Her doctoral dissertation titled 'Schooling Experiences of Central California Indian People Across Generations' is a profound exploration of educational experiences in the region.

Tara's commitment to research and academia is evident through various awards and grants she has received, such as the 2020 scholarship to Fishtrap Writers Conference, Fresno State's Graduate Fiction Award in 2018, and a Graduate Net Initiative grant in 2017-2018 for her research into early California and Native history.

She has a notable publication record with works in esteemed literary outlets like Southwest Review, Entropy, and Apparitions Literary Magazine, among others.

Additionally, Tara's forthcoming fairy tale 'The Ice Child' is set to be published in 2021 by Black Lawrence Press as part of the climate fiction anthology Fire & Ice: Tales of the Anthropocene.

Education-wise, Tara studied Teaching and Curriculum at Fresno Pacific University, completed her MFA in Creative Writing Fiction at CSU Fresno, and earned an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from California State University Fresno.

Her background includes roles such as a Seasonal Observer at TNTP, a Teaching Associate at CSU Fresno, and teaching positions at Porterville Unified School District in English, Drama, Mock Trial, and Service-Learning.
