Tarkington Newman

Tarkington J. Newman is a doctoral candidate at The Ohio State University, holding a Master of Science in Kinesiology-Sport Management. His research focuses on positive youth development, particularly through sports, among socially vulnerable youth. Tarkington has extensive experience in qualitative and quantitative methodologies, leading various research projects at OSU's LiFEsports Initiative. He has received multiple awards and scholarships for his academic achievements, including the OSU College of Social Work Merriss Cornell Scholarship Award. Through his dissertation, he explored life skill development and transfer in a community sport-based positive youth development program. Tarkington has established interdisciplinary partnerships, resulting in numerous publications, book chapters, and conference presentations. He has taught courses on positive youth development, social work practice, and research methods. Committed to community service, Tarkington works as a program evaluation consultant for youth-serving organizations and coaches youth sports. He is set to graduate in December 2018.
