It is wonderful to begin the day reflecting on a milestone achievement for a client, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dundee Township.

Yesterday, Drew Glassford, CEO of the BGCDT, joined other leaders at the White House Summit on Equity and Excellence in STEMM, a first-of-its-kind national initiative to lead and coordinate cross-sector action to help achieve greater equity across STEMM fields.

The White House announced $2 billion in commitments dedicated to this initiative--and BGCDT was listed alongside Microsoft and Regeneron (photo). Drew and team secured $8 million in public and private funds to convert a closed school into a 45,000-square-foot Impact Center that will be a hub for introducing hundreds of students from under-represented communities to STEM-related careers in advanced manufacturing and more. What they are building in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago is a national model that can be scaled across the country.

Kudos to Travis T. York, Ph.D. and the AAAS team for working with White House Office of Science and Technology Policy to bring STEMM Opportunity Alliance to fruition. After the announcement in the morning, folks from a variety of sectors participated in sessions to make tangible commitments to build on this moment. (See photo with the amazing people with whom I shared ideas and placed post-it notes on accountability boards.)

Also, my various worlds collided as Drew connected with the amazing Kei Koizumi, White House OSTP extraordinaire and longtime friend, and Sami A., a intern at OSTP who is also my mentee and a Point Foundation Scholar.
