Thomas Bakkum

Thomas Bakkum is a scientist who has transitioned from academia to industry. He was born on January 17, 1991, in Delft, Netherlands.1 Bakkum completed his Bachelor of Science in Life Science & Technology in 2014 at Leiden University in collaboration with Delft University of Technology. He then obtained his Master of Science in Life Science & Technology Summa Cum Laude in 2016 at Leiden University.1

After his studies, Bakkum pursued a PhD at Leiden University, focusing on bioorthogonal labeling tools to study pathogenic intracellular bacteria. He completed his PhD in 2021 and subsequently worked as a postdoctoral researcher.1

Two years ago, Bakkum made a significant career change. He decided to leave his promising academic career as a third-year post-doc in Wisconsin for a different path.2 In September 2021, he started working as an Application Scientist at VitroTEM.1

Throughout his academic career, Bakkum has published several research papers and presented his work at various scientific conferences. He has collaborated with multiple research groups and supervised students in practical courses and research projects.1
