Thomas Farrugia is the CEO and Founder of Beta Bugs, an insect genetics company focused on specialization and horizontal segmentation within the insect farming industry.

With a background in Chemistry, Thomas has a Ph.D. from the University of Bristol, a Master's by Research in Nanomaterials from Imperial College London, and a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Chemistry with Materials from the University of Malta.

He is an early stage innovation leader with experience in securing and managing funds from various entities such as the EU's EIC Accelerator, InnovateUK, and Scottish Enterprise to pioneer a nucleus population and selective breeding program for Black SoldierFly in collaboration with The Roslin Institute.

Thomas excels in developing and managing innovation projects, working with diverse stakeholders, fundraising, and leading teams.

Apart from his professional endeavors, he enjoys outdoor activities in Scotland, fermenting food, riding bikes, reading science fiction, and engaging in miniature painting hobbies.
