The EU's #AIAct (coming into force on August 1st, 2024) and California's #SB1047 signal a global shift towards regulating #AI. These regulations aim to mitigate potential risks like societal harm, bias, and safety concerns. They emphasize responsible development through #riskassessments, #explainability requirements, and increased developer #accountability. Rightly so, we already see abuse of this fast-moving technology daily (including here on #linkedin). However, navigating the regulatory landscape for this rapidly evolving technology is a challenge. Striking a balance is crucial – we need #regulations that foster #innovation without compromising #safety and #ethics. Perhaps, compliance with fair and well-designed regulations can become a competitive advantage, showcasing a company's commitment to responsible #AI development. Thats my hope. #ResponsibleAI #EU #AI #Ethics #EuropeanComission
From my experience witnessing #GenAI progress on both sides of the #Atlantic over the last months, here are a few observations why Europe’s GenAI Scene isn’t as ‘AI-mazing’ as the #US... yet.
Europe still takes leisurely walks in terms of #GenAI innovation, while the US sprints (#SiliconValley-style). The US is downing investment espressos by the gallon, while #Europe sips cautiously on lattes.
Europe’s AI innovations are slower and regulated, whereas the US prefers the ‘fast-food’ approach—quick and fewer rules (aged fine wine vs. fast food).
The US has one main dish—English. Europe offers a full buffet of languages, making tech rollouts as complex as Grandma’s secret recipe.
The US is like the cool kid at the AI party, attracting brains from all over. Europe’s invite got lost in the mail.
While the US caught the early worm with #GenAI, Europe hit the snooze button. BUT Europe still has the charm, the brains, and the potential. Time to turn that café chat into a sprint! Just a few observations...
