Tiffany Chen is the Vice President of Discovery at GentiBio, a biotherapeutics company focused on developing engineered regulatory T cells (EngTregs) to treat autoimmune, alloimmune, autoinflammatory, and allergic diseases.235 GentiBio's main headquarters is in Cambridge, Massachusetts.2
Chen's role involves overseeing the discovery process at GentiBio.34 Prior to this, she held the position of Director of Scientific Evaluation and Strategy, and before that, Director of Discovery at Rubius Therapeutics.3 As a starting scientist at Rubius, Chen developed the foundation of the company’s engineered red cell platform.3 She established the culture science and protein science teams that enabled preclinical activities in Discovery and built out prototyping efforts for therapeutic candidates and platform capabilities.3 As head of the Immunology Team, she also led initial work in utilizing the red cell platform to address autoimmune diseases.3 She also led efforts in the antigen-specific immuno-oncology space and drove a program from early discovery through IND approval, and led evaluation of external technologies.3
Chen is originally from Texas and holds a BS in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and a PhD in Biological Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she focused on engineering therapeutic proteins for immune modulation.3 She enjoys traveling, exploring places to eat, and spending time with her dog.3
Chen participated in a panel at the Cell Therapy for Autoimmune Disease Summit where she discussed the challenges of using preclinical models for cell therapies in autoimmune disease and the importance of considering safety when moving cell therapies into the clinic.14 She also noted that preclinical models are just models and might not actually be directly translated to the clinic.1 Her LinkedIn username is tfenyi.6
