Do you know the difference between Wiz and Wiz? This security blog and the expert it quotes seem to be confusing Wiz the company with Wiz the internal Google web framework.

Today is my last day at Google. It’s been an incredible time of learning and personal growth, beginning with my first group of interviewers including Peter Lee and John Schlag. Thanks to everyone, and especially to David Oster and my son Michael Burks for going to Google first and giving me a peek inside!

It’s also been a time of constant change. Over my eight years I’ve had eleven different managers (including three different Dans). Although I would have loved to have had less churn, I deeply appreciate everyone’s support and encouragement.

I like to say that my career has had three phases: Electronic Design Automation, mobile apps, and networked APIs. I realized recently that each time I’ve left a field it’s been to learn something that would make things better in the area that I left. So far I’ve never gone back. Maybe it’s time for that, or is it time for another step forward?

I don’t say goodbye because despite what you might see on the outside, I feel deeply attached to everyone that I’ve worked with. Whether we’ve harmonized easily or grappled constantly, I’m grateful for the time that you spent with me. My channels are always open.

There’s an Amtrak rail pass in my inbox, and I’ll be spending the rest of May riding across the western US visiting family and friends in Cincinnati, Minneapolis, and Portland. See you on the other side!
