**Repost
I post often on LinkedIn but I believe my most useful post about Job Searching is below.
I think I could repost it everyday and it would always add value.
If I was going to look for a job right now here is what I would do...
-
Spend time outlining what I want to do. Type of job, type of company, work location, travel, hours, compensation requirements, etc. Outline what is critical in my next role.
-
Get a good enough resume and LI Profile ready. Two things I would focus on. Clearly articulating my work experience. Clearly articulating what I am good at.
BTW...this should always be up to date. Always.
-
Work the job boards. This would not be my primary strategy but we all need to use them. But I am not just applying. See step 5.
-
Build a list of Target Companies. Companies I might want to work for that might value my skillset. This is critical.
-
Work my Target Companies. Find key players, hiring manager, TA folks, the CEO, etc.
*Network via LinkedIn and email - Get conversations going *Follow their company on LI *Be relentless in my followup
-
Practice interviewing. Telling my story. Developing the threads that are foundational to my story.
-
Rinse and repeat.
*People often skip step 1 and 6 *Many focus to much on their resume and not enough on their LI Profile *Hyper focus on steps 4 and 5 *Many folks rely to much on Job Boards *Most people do little or no followup - That's the truth *My opinion only
Best of luck with your search this week.
