Highlights
On this #WorldRefugeeDay, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, estimates there are currently more than 43 million refugees worldwide. Even with that astronomical (and rising) figure, I'm particularly proud of our work at World Learning and School for International Training to support #refugees, especially with our partners at Presidents' Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration, the Ethiopian Community Development Council, Inc., and Welcome.US.
In recognition of the impact that colleges and universities can have in supporting #refugeeresettlement, Secretary Antony Blinken of the U.S. Department of State and Secretary Miguel Cardona of the U.S. Department of Education signed a joint letter to presidents/chancellors of 4,000+ #highered institutions across the US, urging them to get more involved.
I'm so proud that our Supporting Higher Education in Refugee Resettlement (SHERR) program is at the center of this effort, and that our New Vermonter Education Program, which has helped resettle more than 300 refugees in southern Vermont, was cited as an example.

If you’re in need of a good read (or listen) about the state of our #democracy and the courageous #leadership we need to keep it, I commend to you this speech by Ford Foundation President Darren Walker and his follow up conversation with the editor of The New Yorker, David Remnick.
(Hat tip to Wagaye Johannes for sharing this with me!)
