Earlier this week, we upgraded a bunch of GitHub Copilot products to use the latest GPT-4o model, with big improvements in quality and performance.

A lot of hard work goes on behind the scenes for these model changes:

• We run benchmarks with test datasets to see how the new model impacts response quality • We iterate on our prompts to adapt them to the new model • We gradually roll out the changes to developers, monitoring the impact as we go

The outcome? A massive speed boost for my "pull request summaries" product, used by thousands of developers every single day ⚡

See the example video below, where we've cut summary generation for one pull request from 25s to 10s.

In January, after nearly two years at GitHub, I made the jump to work on Copilot 🤖 My first 5 months in the world of AI have been wild, but incredibly rewarding.

Last week, we shipped something that I'm super proud of: Copilot knowledge bases in Visual Studio Code.

Developers with a Copilot Enterprise subscription can now talk to Copilot in their IDE and get answers based on their organisation's internal documentation. Getting answers in the IDE means staying in your flow state 🧠

I've just picked up a new project: bringing the power of Copilot to code review 👀 Watch this space!
