As we approach the end of 2023, I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for the incredible journey of learning I've experienced this year.
The practice of conducting informational interviews has been a key component of my personal development strategy, and I want to thank Delmy M. Lendof, who introduced me to the information interview technique 5 years ago. In line with a personal goal I set at the beginning of the year, I aimed to arrange an informational interview with a colleague from a different department each month. Talking with individuals such as Ying wai Tang, Annerine van Schalkwyk, Loes van Puijenbroek, Tavis Gravatt, Tamara Vlootman, Tony Kwok, Vera Rensink, Frank Van Den Bosch, Noha Shafik, MSc, Frank Maessen, Marc Giard, and Fenna Levenbach has been an enriching experience. Connecting with 12 inspiring colleagues from various departments at bol has been a highlight, as each one brings unique experiences and perspectives.
Beyond the informational interviews, I also received valuable feedback from my direct colleagues through the 360 feedback process and took an impactful power of influence training facilitated by Evelien Fokker. One crucial insight gained from the 360 feedback and influence model training is the realization that I need to be more direct, learn to say no, and firmly stand by my values—a more Dutch way of direct communication, so to speak :)
I am genuinely thankful for the time and insights shared during these conversations. Each interaction has proven to be a valuable learning experience, emphasizing the significance of aligning one's work with personal values and cultivating a supportive environment, both professionally and personally.
As the year draws to a close, I am taking this opportunity to reflect, relax, and set new goals for the upcoming year. I appreciate the connections made and lessons learned, and I am looking forward to the opportunities and challenges that 2024 will bring.
Wishing you a joyful holiday season and a prosperous New Year filled with continued growth and success.

As tech layoffs persist in the U.S., those impacted are facing a difficult challenge in securing new employment. The situation becomes even more complex for international employees on H1B work visas or Postgraduate OPT, who must find a new job within a limited timeframe or risk deportation from the U.S. A notable development in this regard is Canada's recent launch of its inaugural Tech Talent Strategy, designed to attract foreign talents in the U.S., who can help drive emerging technology innovation in Canada.
I'm curious if any other country will follow Canada's lead in developing immigration policies for this population. As we navigate the challenges, it also opens more opportunities and a new way of thinking. Let us continue to support one another, exchange knowledge, and collaborate across borders because borders do not hinder brilliance.
