Highlights
This past week, my collaborator Eito Murakami and I traveled to Christchurch, New Zealand to present "Pigments of Imagination: An Interactive Virtual Reality Composition" at the ACM Symposium on Virtual Reality Software and Technology (VRST) 2023.
This was my first time attending a conference for my work and my first time visiting New Zealand. I celebrated by tripping on a brick walkway (with both feet) in front of the convention center on the first day, breaking my elbows, and spending a lot of time becoming acutely intimate with the New Zealand healthcare system. I spent mornings/afternoons at the conference and most evenings at the ER and pharmacy (extra thanks to Eito for taking on the bulk of work at the conference).
Our little project was really well-received by some truly brilliant academics, researchers and VR developers across the globe. The individual feedback from experiencers validated our belief in this experience and offered some key insights, resources and opportunities into how we can effectively move toward more public presentations and distribution to all of you. To top it off, we won an award for best demo presentation at the conference. Our accompanying paper was also published in the ACM Digital Library! The journey this project has taken us on has honestly been quite surreal, and it still feels like we're just getting started.
I'm looking forward to visiting New Zealand again, perhaps with functional limbs. More so, I'm excited to get to work on the next phase of "Pigments of Imagination" as a presentable VR experience for all of you.
Here's a link to the paper. Much like a new song release, I invite everyone to check it out. Click the link and download PDF to read the whole thing. If you know folks in the field of music production and/or VR, I invite you to pass this on to them as well!
