For the very first time, you can hear directly from a patient whose breast cancer was picked up earlier because of Mia®. In this moving video produced by The Guardian and Microsoft, follow Barbara’s journey as she learns that our #AI solution has flagged up a potential cancer and find out why her prognosis is so much better because of it. As Barbara said to us, “I don’t have the big C, I have a little c, thanks to Mia”.
A huge thanks to Barbara for bravely sharing her story and to all of those who have supported our work in the NHS, including Gerald Lip, Lesley Anderson, Moragh Boyle, Lorna Cameron, Anita Gouldsbrough, Clarisse de Vries, Roger Staff, Dominic Cushnan, Daniel Bamford, NHS Grampian, University of Aberdeen, NHS Scotland, NHS England, Department of Health and Social Care, Accelerated Access Collaborative, NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research), Microsoft Azure, Rosemarie Wilson, Louise Chandler Maura Buchanan, Rosemarie Wilson and all our other patient and public representatives.
To all of those who are asking when #AI will be ready to impact healthcare, the answer is NOW. In the case of Kheiron Medical, we have worked hard to develop an AI tool called Mia that gives women a better chance against breast cancer. We now have conclusive prospective evidence that Mia can increase the early detection of breast cancer by up to 13%, as just published in Nature Medicine.
Last week, our team had the privilege to meet one of the women whose cancer was detected early with the help of Mia. Fortunately, this woman has been treated successfully and is now free of cancer. At a time when there is a lot of focus on AI as a threat, this is a good news AI story.
