The hardest part about all of this? Moving forward through ambiguity. I didn’t know if any of these things would work — but I knew that the future of Chezie was worth the risk.
Where others might see failure or setbacks, I see progress, iteration, and lessons learned.
Building a startup is rarely, if ever, a smooth ride, and success is never linear. But every challenge brings us one step closer to figuring out what works. My advice to founders? Keep going until you find what works, then double and triple down on that until it doesn't work anymore.
Today’s your chance to embrace the journey—use it!
The best decision I’ve made for my mental health as a founder?
Pressing the block button.
I’m not a hater by any means, and I genuinely want to see everyone win. But as someone in the trenches of growing a business every day, I’ve had to start muting/blocking certain founders who constantly post about their wins.
Don’t get me wrong—I’d be doing the same if I were in their shoes. But seeing all these posts about ARR milestones and fundraising success made me question what Chezie has or hasn’t done.
For example, one founder I follow has been building his company for about the same time as me but has raised millions more dollars and is doing over 10x our revenue. I realized that constantly seeing his posts was putting me at risk of losing faith in what we’ve worked so hard to build. I didn’t block him out of jealousy or dislike but as a way for me to focus on my journey without constantly comparing myself to others.
Last week J. Cole’s "Love Yourz" played on shuffle, and it hit me.
The message is clear: there’s no such things as a life that’s better than yours.
While I might be looking up at other founders, thinking they’re crushing it, someone else might look at me the same way. At the end of the day, this is my journey.
Here’s a simple truth: there’s always someone out there doing better than you.
I’ve learned that blocking out that noise is better for my mental health and keeps me focused on running my own race. So here I am, doing just that.
