BIG NEWS!! I have left the world of VC & Corp Dev and I have joined a (sustainable) rocketship!

Background how I landed the role below, TLDR for those who just want the highlights:

🌈 I have started a new role at Rainbow Energy, building out the strategy to help Rainbow on it's mission to empower people to become their own energy provider. 🚀 The team is smashing it so far in rooftop solar - but we are right at the start of this journey with ambitions to take this to the moon! 🤝 I am working with colleagues who have done this before, having multiple serial founders of customer centric businesses in the team (including a 🦄 ) 👋 Please reach out if you want to learn more, particularly if you are: building in cleantech, looking to invest, or anyone who is frustrated and passionate about tackling the climate crisis head on!

SO HOW DID IT COME ABOUT AND WHY RAINBOW ENERGY?

After starting working in the Energy Industry a decade ago at EDF (UK) and more recently at bp, I had long believed that radical change is needed but have seen how difficult this is with decades of under investment in infrastructure, limited innovation and uncompelling customer propositions...

...change has been far far too slow.

After leaving the world of VC to look for an operational role, I reached out to Andrew Mullinger as I knew he was building in the energy space - after a quick response and 'short' 3 hour coffee meeting...

... I knew this the company I wanted to work at next!

A big part of this was Andrew's passion to bring together diverse groups to drive change the energy markets. And his track record of doing this in highly regulated, stale industries - having does this not just once, but twice! (1st, founding Funding Circle UK - reinventing SME lending, raising hundreds of millions in equity and billions in debt. 2nd, as a founding board member & investor at LIS: The London Interdisciplinary School - the first new degree issuing university in decades).

SO WHAT DOES RAINBOW ENERGY ACTUALLY DO AND HOW IS IT GOING SO FAR?

Rainbow are getting the infrastructure in place for customers to generate, and be in control of, their energy supply, while supporting them on their electrification journey.

We are starting my making the process of designing and installing solar and battery systems effortless, and in the future doing this for more asset types to help customers electrify, as well as developing a integrated solution that innovates across the energy and electrification value chain.

So far this is going pretty well, from doing our first install in Q4 last year, to now doing 3-4 installs a day!

Thank you again Andrew for trusting me to be a part of this awesome team and thank you to my colleagues who I have already learnt so much from in the past few months Stefan Cooksammy Neil Cockerill Laura Wynch James Allchin Chris Linn Carol Evans

How do major corporates innovate?

This is the question that I delighted to unpack with the 75 strong MSc Entrepreneurship programme at Bayes Business School today and to talk about how Launchpad and other centralised innovation units within bp are at centre of helping to redefine future energy systems and scaling tech ventures.

Thank you for the opportunity to speak Andrew Bott.
