My partner, a proud WGA member, began her strike today. As Hollywood faces uncertainty, I remain hopeful that the strike will be resolved swiftly and equitably. However, I am astonished that the inclusion of smart contract payments, or more practically, "Net Zero," hasn't made it to the list of demands.

It's been disheartening to witness Alye, a fortunate WGA member, experience the hassle of receiving paper checks in the mail – often arriving weeks late and in incorrect amounts. This is only rectified through significant effort, persistence, and patience. Surely, Alye isn't the only writer facing such challenges.

Every representative, regardless of their position in Hollywood, can attest that chasing payments is the most exasperating part of the job. Imagine if there was a technology that enabled instant payments upon achieving predefined, agreed-upon milestones. Suppose unions insisted on adopting this technology or, more pragmatically, demanded Net 0 instead of the outdated Net 30/60/90 payment norms. Envision financiers gaining a competitive edge by attracting top-tier projects and talent through prompt payments.

I firmly believe that smart contract payments will become the norm. It's baffling that more unions haven't yet pushed for this change.

While it may still be early days, I'm confident that this issue will take center stage during the next contract negotiation, eventually leading to a paradigm shift across various industries.
