What a shifting time we are in! Today I had the honour of presenting at one of the largest consulting firms in the world, Boston Consulting Group (BCG) at their Australia wide conference on the Sunshine Coast.

In the presentation I shared how meditation plays an integral role in enhancing the qualities of resilience and leadership and why we need greater equanimity and unruffability in the work place.

A big congrats and thank you to Stephen Van Dorn Sophie Hallums Olivia Morrison and the team at HeadBox Australia Claire Stevens for organising a phenomenal event!

Did you know that you're most likely exhausting yourself daily by doing this one thing...

It's called DECISION FATIGUE.

Each day you make around 33,000 to 35,000 decisions...sounds crazy right? Most of these are micro decisions like when you open your sock drawer, do you pick the black or blue ones? When you then open your t-shirt draw, white or grey tee? Then you go to make breakfast, eggs or avo on toast?

Then some of them are BIG decisions like should I leave the relationship or stay? Should I leave my job or stick with it? Should we sell the house or put up with the mortgage stress? These big ones are decisions that you may go back and forth on countless times each day without even making a final decision.

Decisions play a big part in our lives because there is a huge burden on that decision to provide you with greater fulfilment. All decisions are a choice between less or more fulfilment. There's a big responsibility on that decision sometimes. Jeff Bezos once said that the reason Amazon was so successful was because they consistently made good decisions.

There are two ways to reduce the decision fatigue. Firstly we can reduce the amount of decisions we have to make by using a little more structure and removing the need to make unnecessary decisions. An example is Steve Jobs who wore the same clothes every day to remove unnecessary decision-making. Another example is to map out your meal plan, your gym plan or your daily routine each day so that it is all predetermined by you for you in advance.

The second way to reduce the decision burden is to cultivate greater levels of inner fulfilment. This may sound a bit woo woo but there is something to this. When we quieten our mind in meditation and feel a greater sense of inner peace and happiness, then the burden on those decisions to provide us with fulfilment has been reduced. You become less bogged down with the back and forth of thoughts in the mind trying to work out which way to go, and instead tune into inner guidance in your body that directs you more effortlessly in life.

Our society has become extremely cerebral, with a huge emphasis on thinking, which is great in many ways but it comes with a cost. We have reduced our ability to tune into our intuition, our gut feel, and the body's charm that guides us subtly in a way that enhances and supports us. It's like we have Metallica blaring in our head while Beethoven is quietly being played in our body. If we turn down the Metallica, you will be able to hear the Beethoven.
