🌍 Reflecting on my volunteering trip to Uganda ✨
Recently, I had the privilege of facilitating leadership skills training program in northern Uganda.
It was a transformative experience that deeply humbled and inspired me. The people I worked with demonstrated incredible determination and resilience, leaving a lasting impression on my heart.
The main purpose of the training was to transfer skills and knowledge so local community leaders could sustainably address challenges their communities face and break the poverty cycle themselves.
While working for 8 hours a day in the village and then late into the night at the local hotel, I had realised that it is the local leaders who show me through their actions about what true leadership is.
I witnessed the unwavering dedication of a man who, despite a physical challenge, walked over 10 kilometres each way, using a walking stick, to be the first person at the training site every day. His commitment to self-improvement and punctuality was remarkable.
I observed a resilient mother skilfully balancing parenthood and active participation in our sessions, with her baby strapped to her back. Her determination to create a better future for her child was truly inspiring.
Another participant endured a harrowing incident when arsonists targeted his village. He courageously protected his loved ones and home throughout the night. Despite the ordeal, he showed up to the training the very next day, eager to learn and grow. His unwavering dedication in the face of adversity left me speechless.
As we approach World Hunger Day, on the 28th of May, I want to raise awareness about the challenges faced by the people of Uganda, exacerbated by the war in Ukraine. Let's stand with Uganda and ensure that their stories of courage and determination are heard.
