Tommaso Piazza is currently the Director of the Information Technology and Telecommunications Services Area (CIO) at Ca' Foscari University in Venice. With a Master's degree in Management Engineering from the University of Palermo and a Ph.D. in Production Management, he brings a wealth of experience and expertise in the field.
Having started his career in 2001 at the Italian Division of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC Italy), Tommaso has held various roles from System Administrator to IT Operation Manager, eventually becoming the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of UPMC Italy and ISMETT in 2006.
During his tenure, ISMETT evolved into one of the first paperless hospital centers in Europe by implementing an integrated information system with an electronic medical record system at its core. Tommaso's leadership facilitated seamless communication between departments for orders and results through HL7 messaging.
Apart from his professional roles, Tommaso Piazza is actively involved in industry associations such as the Italian Association of Healthcare Information Systems (AISIS) and HIMSS, where he serves on the Governing Council of HIMSS Europe.
Since September 2015, Tommaso has been leading the Information Technology and Telecommunications Services Area at Ca' Foscari University, leveraging his expertise in team management, IT architecture, and information systems design.
His research interests are primarily focused on ICT development in controlled contamination environments, applying fuzzy logic to decision-making processes, and risk management in GMP and hospital settings.
