Tony Lai is a lawyer, researcher, and technology entrepreneur with a diverse background in legal informatics, blockchain governance, smart contracts, entrepreneurship, and social innovation.

Tony has advised and collaborated with various entities including companies, government agencies, law firms, and nonprofits, focusing on community sovereignty, data governance, compliance, and managing global and local risks and resources.

As an Entrepreneurial Fellow and Founder of the Blockchain Group at Stanford's Center for Legal Informatics (CodeX), Tony has been actively involved in deploying technology to enhance legal access globally.

He co-founded Legal.io, a company aiming to scale legal access worldwide, and has served on the boards of multiple companies and non-profit organizations dedicated to data governance and legal interoperability.

Tony is versed in design thinking, having learned at Stanford's d.school, and has been instrumental in designing legal technology courses and affiliations with startup accelerators.

With over 10,000 hours of legal experience prior to his work at Stanford, Tony has provided counsel on regulatory, transactional, and IP matters across Europe, Asia, and Africa.

In terms of education, Tony holds a Master of Laws degree in Law, Science, and Technology from Stanford University, along with bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Oxford.

His specialties include legal informatics, blockchain governance, smart contracts, entrepreneurship, design thinking, intellectual property, privacy, data protection, technology law, and various corporate and commercial legal aspects.
