Today, we released our second U.S. Safety Report covering the years 2019 and 2020. This report, like Uber's inaugural report in 2019, includes data on serious safety incidents, as well as information about our safety processes, technologies, and investments.
I’m pleased that the data shows the rate of reported sexual assaults decreased 38% since the period covered by our first U.S. Safety Report three years ago. Yet I’m also very cognizant that behind every reported incident where things went wrong, there’s a human story, which is why all of us at Uber will never stop trying to improve the safety of our platform.
Of course, releasing this data doesn’t mean Uber’s less safe; on the contrary, the data confirms 99.9% of all Uber trips end satisfactorily, with no rider or driver safety complaints whatsoever, making the Uber platform one of the safest ways to get from Point A to Point B. What disclosing this data does mean is that we’re taking our commitment to transparency and accountability seriously, even when it’s hard because the information we’re sharing with the public may not always be flattering.
Secrecy doesn’t make anyone safer, and we encourage other companies and public agencies to step up and be transparent with the public about their safety records, especially as it relates to sexual violence. It’s the only way we’ll be able to improve safety for everyone.
