Tony Zamora, a Chicago native, is a Human Resources professional with over a decade of experience. He has dedicated his life to helping people achieve their goals in various capacities. Tony is a U.S. Navy Veteran with well-rounded experience in electronics repair, administration, and HR policies. After exploring his calling in life, Tony transitioned into the Human Resources field and worked for many companies, including Ipsos in North America, where he served at different levels, starting as an HR Generalist and eventually earning the position of Vice President of Human Resources. Tony is also an endurance athlete with over 20 years of experience in triathlon racing and over a decade of coaching athletes. He earned his MBA, Business Intelligence and Analytics Management, and master's degree in Human Resources Management from Keller Graduate School of Management.

I'm excited to share that I’ve joined the VA as an Admin Specialist at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. After almost 2 years of being unemployed, I’m proud to be part of an organization that honors the service and sacrifice of our nation’s Veterans. This role is the right choice for me, allowing me to contribute to a mission close to my heart—ensuring every veteran is laid to rest with the dignity and respect they deserve
640 Days. That’s how long it’s been since I was let go from my job without any explanation. Corporate greed, politics, and hate took their toll, but I’ve managed to keep moving forward—largely because of the support from my family, friends, and loved ones.
What made it even harder was realizing that not many people stick around when you’re at your worst. Many I thought were friends and long-time colleagues disappeared and went silent. But during these long, challenging times, a few others—some I had limited communication with, and even strangers—stepped in to help where they could. It’s in times like these that your true circle and supporters reveal themselves.
This past year, I’ve pivoted slightly and have been working hard as a realtor which I continue to enjoy doing. But the corporate job market has been tough. Over 1100 job applications later, with few interviews and constant news of layoffs, I knew it was time for a change. The more I looked for HR jobs, the more I realized I wanted - needed - to do something different. It was hard searching for any job, and while I've applied for many government roles over the years, even those are tough to get. But then, an opportunity came up with the VA, and I knew it would be worth it. It's an organization I am grateful for supporting me and treating my pain for 20 years since I got out of the Navy. I knew my place was to have the chance to be in a place of service again.
Today, I’m excited to start a new chapter with the National Cemetery Administration. While the pay is just 30% of what I used to earn, the rewards of serving my country and fellow service members and their familes, the peace of mind, and a better work-life balance make it all worthwhile.
The past five years have been filled with challenges—divorce, losing my two dogs, selling my house, losing the home I was building, and facing financial uncertainty. But today, I’m stepping into a new journey, and I’m hopeful for brighter days ahead.
