Tor Dommersnes

Journalist at Stavanger Aftenblad

Tor Dagfinn Dommersnes is a journalist at Stavanger Aftenblad.2 He has been working there since January 1983.2

In June 2004, Moroccan authorities expelled Dommersnes and photographer Fredrik Refvem from the country.13 They were never given a specific reason, but one of the agents mentioned their reporting on Western Sahara.3 According to Agence France-Presse, the journalists were expelled for meeting with Ali Salem Tamek, a Western Sahara activist.3 However, Dommersnes said he never interviewed Tamek, but he did call another Western Saharan activist to set up an interview.3 A government spokesman said that the two journalists got accredited for a story of a touristic nature, when in fact this story had political characteristics.3

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) is deeply concerned by the arrests on 16 June of journalist Tor Dagfinn Dommersnes and photographer Fredrik Refvem of the Norwegian daily Stavanger Aftenblad, who have been declared "persona non grata".1 The organization called on the Moroccan authorities to allow the journalists, who complied with all the necessary formalities, to be allowed to travel freely.1
