I had the honor of being a guest speaker for a college seniors in a Marketing class. It was a small but mighty group - diverse in backgrounds and in their future aspirations. Each poised to make a difference and set the world on fire.

During our session, a student asked me a question that has stuck with me: "What would you tell your younger self?" While I managed to babble something off, upon reflection, here is what I wish I had said:

⚡Find a mentor: Their guidance is invaluable on your journey. ⚡Strive for excellence, not perfection: Your 80% effort often surpasses others' 100%. ⚡Ignore the noise: Focus on what truly matters. ⚡Don't sweat the small stuff: Most of it doesn't matter in the long run. ⚡Build an authentic network: Nurture it. ⚡Keep it in perspective: Work is important, but it shouldn't be your biggest weight. ⚡Cultivate a tribe: Surround yourself with supportive individuals, who celebrate each others successes and are there to pick each other up when needed. ⚡Ask for help, clarification: It's a sign of strength, not weakness. ⚡Think about your financial future : Start that 401k NOW and contribute consistently. I promise, you won't even notice the missing $'s. ⚡Gratitude is key: Acknowledge the efforts of those who paved the way for you. ⚡Choose your battles wisely: Sometimes, compromise is more valuable than being right. ⚡Layoff, Fire, Let Go: It is ok. Enjoy the respite, you'll be working again soon.

What would you add to this list? What would you tell your younger self?

While you produce results, this is something that MUST be followed. In fact, it is my belief that you can get better results when you make people feel good, positive, empowered and energized.
