Stanford's online Ethics + Tech course is accepting applications for the fall 2024 class through this Friday 8/30.

This is a great, great opportunity, especially for those that are broadly curious about tech policy but haven't worked in DC or at a policy org.

Last year's speakers included former New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern, Sam Altman and Dr. Rumman Chowdhury, and great convos about privacy, AI bias and ethics, the role of the Federal Trade Commission, and lots more.

70% of students are tech sector workers, and it's a great low-lift way to explore the policy implications for all these emerging tech products and applications.

If you work in tech and want some 101 exposure to law, regulation, policy, and politics, you should absolutely apply.

Kudos to Megan Goering Mellin, Caroline Ricksen and others on putting the course together, and Rob Reich, Mehran Sahami, and Jeremy Weinstein for their leadership getting it off the ground.

Apply here and by Friday! https://lnkd.in/e4VG-V3A

349 applications in 12 days for our AI Safety Fellowship! 🇺🇸

We need to dispel the notion that tech workers don't want to work in government. I'm now 9.5 years into TechCongress. I know this is demonstrably false.

The issue is the demand side-- government itself. We need way more pathways to serve. Most importantly we need government dollars appropriated for tech talent. By Congress.

In the meantime, we're excited to get this AI Safety team off the ground, and help be proof of concept future talent pipelines.

I'm especially proud that 51% of applicants identify as women or nonbinary, 65% identify as people of color, and 39% identify as underrepresented people of color-- rates orders of magnitude higher than the tech sector itself.

We've got a ton of work to do to select this class! Kudos especially to the core TechCongress team that made this happen: Aleena Khan, Grace McKinney, and Mercedes M..
