Highlights
I am down 5 lbs. today. This is a big deal to me. 10 years ago I was in the best shape of my life. Yes, I am a recovering Cross Fitter, hard to believe I know if you see me today...But 10 years ago I was in dark place. I was trapped by a non-compete doing a job I was very good at but hated. I had a 1.5 hour commute each way so 3 hours lost each day in Portland Traffic. I was constantly fighting fires and fixing things that should not have been broken. I was angry. I was "perma pissed" as I called it. Not a healthy state.
I took that anger out at CrossFit. Almost nightly I would stop there before I got home, most nights meeting my wife there and just let the rage and anger out. It was cathartic. Slam balls are a wonderful thing. The assault bike can f...off however. Lifting heavy just helps...something about endorphins I think.
Anyways, 7 years ago I made life changes, drastic ones. Left my job, moved inside the industry to a new role, moved to Colorado, downsized and simplified my life, you get the idea. And suddenly I was happy. We struggled to find the right CrossFit Box though. There are like 20+ in FoCo where I live. It was tough to find the similar "vibe" we had in Oregon. Once we finally did the pandemic hit...we know what that did to Gym's, and my motivation.
Instead of CrossFit I found brewery's and beer makes me happy. It is also a lot less strenuous than CrossFit so a new focus was born LOL. Fast forward 7 years and too much beer and not enough CrossFit means Travis tipped the scale this summer at number that was unacceptable to Travis.
I stopped making excuses and instead started making WOD's...I sucked up my pride and started all over. Fat, slow, sweaty with questionable form. For the last couple of weeks my entire body has hurt, a lot. Starting over at 50+ is not the same as 40+. Last night I really did a grinder of a workout and this morning I wasn't really that sore. So with that ah ha moment I got on the scale...-5 lbs...damn that feels good.
They say you need to pick your hard. I have big plans and crazy ideas like racing in Baja and endurance riding with my horses. Well, no overweight soft and pudgy 50 something has ever survived racing in Baja or completed a 50 miler horse back so I need to get after my fitness if I don't want to die in Mexico or on the trail. My hard is actively taking care of my weight and strength once again. It is a better hard to deal with IMHO.
May you wake up tomorrow and decide to choose a different hard.
Just a friendly reminder that LLM's suck at providing accurate technical information...while they may help you write fluffy content they deliver a poor return in the details.
That is one to grow on...
