Highlights
For me, the holiday season and year-end always brings a sense of nostalgia but also reflection. Last week, Wiss held it's annual firm update and holiday party. Paul Peterson spoke about changes in the accounting industry and within our Firm, but also spoke to how critical it is to differentiate while also staying true to yourself.
Our holiday party is always beautifully done (and proof that #accountants do know how to have a good time). This time around, Wiss also recognized several team members for their contributions across a number of categories based on votes. I was beyond humbled to receive the award for Connected Leader - one of the areas that motivates me most is being able to create real connections and ensure team members feel not only supported but empowered. I'm so fortunate to have that ability and opportunity at Wiss and so grateful for our team.
2023 has been good to us, looking forward to what 2024 has in store for us all.
This week marks 10 years at Wiss. I moved on from the comfort of my time Caldwell University and walked through the doors at 354 - nervous as hell and unsure what things would look like from that point forward.
I feel like I barely blinked, but somehow have a decade behind me here. Learned the art of #audit under Arnold Ryan Macalintal, CPA, Ryan S. Silva, CPA, CFE, CVA, Paul Lembo Jr. and Bill Beiermeister, CPA, made a quick detour, boomeranged, watched Paul Ursich, CPA build the #CFOAdvisory service line and team from scratch. It's been a rollercoaster for sure, but I've grown so much, both personally and professionally. Coworkers (past and present) have become friends...and some more like family.
Last week, a group of us had the opportunity to participate in Amy Vetter's #ConnectedLeadership program, where Paul Peterson and James Duffy walked us through the story of (and fight for) Wiss - the vulnerability and transparency struck a chord. It's easy to get lost in the day-to-day; sometimes, we all need a reminder of the WHY and this past week did it for me.
The faces have changed and the doors I walk through now lead to a much more beautiful space; the headcount has blown past anything I could have imagined 10 years ago, but the core of our #culture has remained the same and is what keeps me here to this day.
