Highlights
Using AI to conduct market research on CLO preferences for investing in AI literacy training & development programs for their L&D teams
I'm leading an upcoming workshop on AI in L&D for healthcare organizations and I wanted to get initial insights from Chicagoland healthcare Chief Learning Officers (CLOs) on:
🔹program preferences 🔹specific L&D and business challenges healthcare CLOs seek to address via an AI literate L&D team 🔹pricing preferences - what are CLOs willing to invest in time and money 🔹desired outcomes - CLOs' L&D teams develop AI literacy skills so that... [what benefits are to be realized?]?
📚So I took some of the latest research from Harvard on using AI large language model (LLM) to conduct market research using simulated stakeholders, along with L&D industry data that I track (L&D challenges, industry reports, my AI L&D skill assessment & capability map, etc), and loaded it all up into Anthropic Claude 3.5 Sonnet to create an app that allows me to run the simulation - over and over again - as I iterate and test different parameters.
🎥 Video below features one of the simulations where I:
👥 generated a cohort of 500 simulated Chicagoland Chief Learning Officers (CLOs);
📝 “who” then took my market research survey;
📊 then app analyzed, visualized, interpreted simulated survey data
The run in this vid did some wonky stuff with data visualizations, but I was able to take a peek at the generated survey data to get more granular insights that didn't otherwise display correctly.
⚡️WHA-LA!
⏱️ In the space of 30 minutes, for the cost of my $20 per month for Claude, I've got a FANTASTIC starting point!
🔺Should we replace human focus groups with AI simulations?
No. Not at all.
⚡️But it sure is handy on a Saturday afternoon to go from blank piece of paper to specific research design, analysis approach, and instrument design in the space of 30 minutes!
🌟 While also getting a bit of food for thought to ponder on what human CLOs in healthcare might be thinking about in terms of AI literacy training & development programs for their teams, the characteristics of such a program, the challenges they might be focused on - and the desired outcomes they expect as return on their investment.
Also -how much time and money does your L&D team spend on validation benches and capturing population segment learning preferences?
🚨Could you free up L&D n SME capacity with initial AI simulations? then go to your target audience prepared? #justsayin
👀 Take a look at the analysis in the video.
💭 What are your thoughts?
Decent place to start?
😆 and - yes - it took me longer to write this post than it did to create the app (and run mulitiple simulations!)
and - yes! these are the kinds of AI skills & capabilities my team at Owl's Ledge LLC and I help individuals, teams & business leaders develop! 🙃

📢 A Call for Strategic Evolution in L&D
This evolution requires more than just a shift in tactics or technologies. It demands a fundamental reimagining of the role and purpose of L&D within organizations. L&D must move beyond the narrow confines of course creation and delivery, and instead position itself as a strategic partner in driving meaningful and measurable individual, organizational, and societal performance.
L&D stands at a crossroads of disruption. The field now has the power—and the imperative—to shatter the status quo, leveraging cutting-edge tools and revolutionary paradigms. This isn't just about creating impact; it's about empowering every individual to interact with and shape content on their own terms, fostering a culture of continuous, self-driven learning that transcends traditional boundaries.
