For Kubernetes users on AWS (EKS), the built-in VPC CNI now supports network policies, which paves the road to controlling pod-to-pod access without needing a service mesh.
But network policies themselves are still very awkward, so to truly pave that road, and get true segmentation and zero trust, you can simply declare what access each pod needs, and all the network policy work will be done for you: IBAC (intent-based access control) completes the picture.

- Declare that your existing network traffic pattern is the only authorized pattern;
- Declare that the server is protected. Now any unauthorized traffic is blocked.
