To My Linked-In Fam: I don’t usually like to get too deep or personal on here, but circumstances have changed and I feel obligated to spread the word so we can help as many people as possible. On February 20th, my beautiful mother passed away at the age of 60. As some of you already know, she was battling an aggressive Cancer for the last 4.5 years. She was a fighter until the very end, and I can confidently say she is the strongest person I have ever known. I'm still at a loss for words, but I wanted to reach out to my network here for support.
My mom was diagnosed with Metastatic Triple Negative Breast cancer in 2018. Triple Negative Breast Cancer accounts for 10-20% of all breast cancer cases and is known for being significantly more aggressive. Because of its faster growth rate and higher risk of metastasis, most patients require a very aggressive treatment plan that, unfortunately, severely impacts their quality of life.
My mom was always one to give more than she ever asked for. Even in her last moments, she made sure we were all okay, surrounded by our family. She didn't want anyone else to go through what she was going through and often said she would never wish this upon her worst enemy.
About 2.5 months ago, before my Mom passed, she had spoken about starting a foundation to support other women battling the same type of Cancer to help find ways that improve their quality of life in hopes of preventing the pain & suffering she endured for too long.
In honor of my mom's Legacy, my family and I have started The Alka Ohri Foundation with the initial mission to improve the quality of life for women diagnosed with Triple-negative Breast Cancer. Together, we will support research that focuses on developing novel and holistic approaches to prevent and treat MTNBC HER2 Breast Cancer.
Our goal is to assist the pioneers in the industry, working relentlessly to find alternative treatments to improve the quality of life for cancer patients. Unfortunately, but fortunately, because we've lived through this experience for almost five years, we've learned and noted many gaps and shortcomings in the patient treatment process. Our mission is to do everything we can to help improve their journey and ensure they have access to more and varied information.
