A Visual Thinking Tool. A Conservatory of Ideas. I've been working on this unnamed tool between projects (I call it Chips & Sticks). And now I'm closer to sharing this with anyone interested. I use it regularly to document projects, ideas, as well as to understand a topic better. This is also a great source for building a safe personal LLM - which I've just started exploring. Please leave a comment if you are interested in using it. For those who have already expressed an interest - I haven't forgotten! #lateral #thinking #journaling #spatialcanvas #conservatory #tools #design

\ Rant I consider myself a lifelong learner, which is why I frequently participate in academic environments. A couple of times a year, I conduct courses that give me the opportunity to explore ideas and the current zeitgeist with design and art students. This is the reason I teach.

If you ask full-time educators, they will provide compelling reasons for their choice, and it's certainly not because they couldn't find work elsewhere. More likely, they dislike the way work is done in the "industry" and want to change that. Essentially, most people in academic environments are there because they want to be.

To a degree, educators are misfits, and perhaps teaching is their way of creating more misfits who eventually transform societal norms.

However, the general outside-in perspective in India (can't speak for elsewhere) is that people teach because they aren't good enough to get a job in the industry. I find this approximation not only poorly analyzed but also gross and telling of how little we value this profession as a society. This is evident in the low salaries teachers receive. How can a person who creates future thinkers and creators be paid so little? Teaching is the most important profession in our society. From a value creation standpoint, educators almost exclusively shape the ethics, values, and aspirations of societies – certainly more so than any product or brand we might subscribe to. This is a tragedy.

I hope those of you in positions of leverage at academic institutions will consider what it might take for teachers to be compensated even better than people working in the industry. Why not? Sea change.
