Valerie Stafford-Mallis has dedicated the last decade of her career to championing equal access to effective communication for individuals who are deaf and hard-of-hearing. Her journey began in 2008 when she started working at Florida's Department of Health and began to understand the unique challenges faced by the deaf and hard-of-hearing community. In her role as the Health Education Programs Coordinator for the Florida Coordinating Council for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Valerie played a pivotal role in collaborating with various prestigious organizations that advocate for hearing loss advocacy, including the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA), the Association of Late-Deafened Adults (ALDA), and the National Association of the Deaf (NAD).
Throughout her illustrious career, Valerie served on the Board of Trustees for the Hearing Loss Association of America and the Hearing Loss Association of Sarasota. Her commitment to the deaf and hard-of-hearing community was recognized in May 2013 when she was honored as the Hearing Loss Advocate of the Year by Communication Access Inc., a charitable organization in Tampa, Florida. Valerie is uniquely qualified to represent the advocacy efforts in this field as she herself is late-deafened and utilizes bilateral cochlear implants to engage with sound.

In her role as Business Development Manager at Alternative Communication Services (ACS) LLC, Valerie worked diligently to develop and promote services tailored to the needs of the deaf and hard-of-hearing populations.
