One of my favorite moments was hearing Fawn Weaver’s journey with Uncle Nearest, Inc., which highlighted the power of happenstance and destiny. It’s a beautiful reminder of how our connections, both planned and unexpected, can lead to extraordinary opportunities.
I left this summit feeling empowered and grateful to be surrounded by women who are trailblazing the future of their industries. It’s a powerful testament to the impact each of us can make and the importance of lifting each other up as we go.

Diabetes is the leading cause of vision loss in working-age Americans, and with 44% of adults having prediabetes, there's still much we don't know about its impact on eye health. Harrison’s team University of Houston College of Optometry is pioneering research to understand how prediabetes affects the eye, focusing on glucose dysfunction and its relationship to eye disease. This study will explore changes in the vascular and neural retina, cornea, and tear film, aiming to uncover how early glucose tolerance issues might predict ocular health outcomes.
This study could be a start for future breakthroughs for new treatments for those in the early stages of diabetes.
