Vassilis Kostakos is a prominent figure in the field of computer science, with a focus on developing innovative technologies that can interpret and adapt to human behavior across various platforms such as smartphones, smartwatches, social media, and the Internet of Things. His expertise spans mobile computing, ubiquitous and pervasive computing, social network analysis, Human-Computer Interaction, security and usability, complex systems, Internet of Things, Smart Hospitals, and Digital Health.

Vassilis Kostakos pursued his academic journey at the University of Bath, where he obtained a BSc in Computer Science before completing his PhD in the same field. Throughout his career, he has held significant positions at prestigious institutions, including serving as a Professor at the University of Melbourne, and as a Professor at the Centre for Ubiquitous Computing at the University of Oulu. He has also been part of the Academy of Finland Distinguished Professor Programme as a Fellow, an Assistant Professor at the Madeira Interactive Technologies Institute, an Assistant Professor at the University of Madeira, an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Carnegie Mellon University, and a Research Associate at the University of Bath.
