Dear Mayor @ZohranKMamdani
Congratulations on your win!
We don’t share much in common. I have 2 kids your age. We both have last names which end with “ani” but I am not Muslim. We have both seen a lot of the world but I did it the hard way working and traveling through 75 countries after a very modest upbringing.
The reason I am reaching out is I see you as a potentially powerful conduit to our youth. I would love to show you data that the country is undergoing the largest inter- generational wealth transfer in history. Instead of focusing on billionaires (we only have 800, the Chinese have more) we should be nurturing our 25 million (yes!) millionaires, 90 million Costco members with over $100,000 in annual household income. We have tens of trillions in retirement accounts and in real estate.
Our youth will soon be the custodians of this massive wealth. The Chinese, Indians and others are salivating to get at it. (So is my state, Florida which is hoping to snare an exodus of your city’s citizens and corporations). We need to show them there is a well trodden path in this country to accumulating wealth. In blue collar, trade and other jobs not just those in air conditioned offices and vehicles. A marathon, not a sprint. 2-3 decades of hard work and the magic of compounding will get them there.
I like the fact that you are focused on affordability. The solution is vastly increasing our housing options. Our residential construction sector needs to be turbocharged. As we are finding out after a house fire it is a mysterious process dealing with insurance, movers, apartments, the construction sector, navigating the dreaded FEMA 50% process, our municipalities, the SBA etc.
It is a sector screaming to become more digital. It is very labor intensive and could use CPQs, LIDAR, drones and satellite support, 3D printing and robotic bricklayers and painters and plenty more technology.
When you are settled in I would love to engage and share some ideas to truly energize our youth while also taking care of their job and housing needs
Take good care of your great city. Congrats, again.
Burning Platform with Mark Montgomery of @kyield on AI and global competition in the Trump 2.0 economy
Mark highlights several national security and data privacy risks and other cautions. You (and I) may not agree with everything Mark says but I appreciated his pov on the massive investments we are making in LLMs and GPUs and the global competitive and security threats we may be underestimating.
