Highlights
For every new life saving therapy discovered and digital health win, there are still tons of basic operational healthcare problems to solve…
Reflecting on personal experiences in healthcare over past week….
- Long hold time to make appt - need for user friendly online scheduling
- Orders and referrals need to be faxed even if entered in EHR- antiquated policies and procedures
- Pre visit questionnaire not integrated into structured provider workflow - provider and care team involvement in UI
- Medication cost to consumer varies significantly per pharmacy and providers don’t trust the numbers - more robust integration and price transparency
- Had to go to multiple different pharmacies to eventually get one medicine. The pharmacist is unaware of the diagnosis / indication for the medication and relies on patient to tell him/her especially when dosages vary based on indication or weight. - greater interoperability between provider and pharmacy
Fortunately, the care providers were compassionate and recognized these barriers/challenges
This is just one patient / one diagnosis / one treatment. We have a long ways to go to transform care delivery especially for the million of patients with multiple chronic diseases and coordinating among providers.
Huge opportunity for tech / pharma / payer / provider to work in concert to improve patient experience and outcomes!

Recently published article that showed disparities in digital health utilization within primary care during the pandemic. We need to continue to have equitable access to care and focus on improving patient outcomes.
