Highlights
Incorrect conversion tracking is the silent killer of Google Ads ROI. Here's how I'm helping businesses fix it.
Just last week, a law firm reached out because their leads started to decrease.
What I found were some critical errors that were costing them valuable insights and qualified leads.
Here's the toolkit I used to uncover the problems:
Google Tag Assistant: A Chrome extension to quickly diagnose tag issues. Google Tag Manager: Essential for deploying and managing marketing tags across your site (make sure to enable debugging mode). GA4: Provides direct access to verify tags, triggers, and variable setup. Phone Call Tracking Software (e.g., WhatConverts): For understanding Google Ads call performance and optimizing campaigns based on granular call data. Google Ads: The central hub where all your conversion data should flow.
By using these tools, I was able to:
Identify technical implementation errors: Misfires that were preventing accurate tracking. Make sure GTM code is correctly placed on a site and auto-tagging is turned on in Google Ads.
Develop a comprehensive action plan: A clear roadmap for fixing the issues and improving data accuracy.
The result? My client's Google Ads account is now receiving accurate, qualified phone call data. This enables smarter bidding decisions and drives higher-quality traffic – ultimately leading to more valuable leads and a stronger ROI.
What's your biggest challenge with Google Ads conversion tracking?

Since launching my consulting business, I’ve started working with an e-commerce company doing tens of millions in annual revenue. They’re crushing it on Amazon, Meta, and TikTok ads, but Google Ads seemed to be lagging behind.
After digging into the account, I noticed certain products that were disapproved in Merchant Center for policy violations. Although the client’s products are above board, some of their product descriptions in Merchant Center and on landing pages were triggering disapprovals.
As I dug into my work on this account, I decided to try out something new: Google's Gemini Advanced AI.
Here's what I did:
-
Fed Gemini Google's Ad Policies: I primed the AI by inputting Google's various rules, especially policies most relevant to my client.
-
Analyzed Each Disapproved Product: For each product, I copied landing page text and Merchant Center details, and asked Gemini to identify the policy violations causing the disapprovals.
-
Revised with AI Guidance: Gemini helped me pinpoint problematic language and suggested compliant alternatives, which I then had the client implement.
The Outcome
After implementing revisions to landing pages, merchant center details, and ad copy, previously disapproved products are now approved, serving online, and generating net new sales.
This project is ongoing work, and I continue experimenting with different prompts and AI tools, including Perplexity, Groq, and ChatGPT. So far, Gemini advanced has been the most effective tool for this use case.
The Takeaway
AI = Huge Potential. A policy disapproval can be triggered by a seemingly innocuous phrase on a landing page, and identifying the culprit can be a nightmare, but AI tools are perfect for this.
