Highlights
Live connect & Microstrategy in-memory cubes
Microstrategy support three modes to deliver analytics to business users: 1/ Live connect: User run a report and get results directly from a data source. 2/ In-memory: User run a report and get results from Microstrategy in-memory cubes. 3/ Mix of 1 and 2: User run a dashboard and get some results from Microstrategy in-memory cubes and some results from a data source in the dashboard. Or user run a report and get results from Microstrategy in-memory cubes, then, for example, make drilling for more detailed data which are not stored in Microstrategy in-memory and get results from a data source.
Our team have experience to work with various Analytical Data Warehouses platforms (IBM Netezza, Oracle Exadata, SAP HANA, Vertica, Exasol, Teradata, Sybase IQ and etc) as a data source for Microstrategy. If you need to guarantee the quick response time (up to 5 seconds) when user run a Microstrategy report, dashboard or analytical application, you definitely need to use Microstrategy in-memory cubes instead of live connect to get the best performance. There are a lot of cases when it is important to guarantee the quick response time when user execute a report especially when it is mobile business intelligence application.
Here is an example of the mobile sales dashboard we developed for Retail company with 1000+ stores:
- Microstrategy in-memory data volume for that mobile app: 1+ bln rows
- Average response time: 1-2 seconds
- 100+ Sales KPI’s by days/weeks/months/years, product hierarchy and company structure
- Daily data refresh until 9 am
- Native, code-free mobile app for iOS & Android

If you have ever tried to implement data security for Microstrategy users in your BI project, you definitely know the power & flexibility of Microstrategy in that area. Nevertheless, if you have many users and a lot of Microstrategy objects to be secured (dashboards, dossier, reports, attributes, metrics and so on), it is quite time-consuming and difficult to support.
To simplify the implementation and support of data security in your Microstrategy projects, we created a very nice tool based on Microstrategy - Security roles administration system (SRA). It allows easily automate and support the process of creating the security filters, groups and rules for each Microstrategy object. You mark the objects created in Microstraegy platform as “secured”. After that, using SRA, you create security policies and link them to your business users. All further support of the security policies are carried in SRA. All these steps can be done even without having Microstrategy skills as shown on the video:
