A quick guide on Cloud Journey.
After years of my work with clients on cloud transformation I’ve discovered a set of common issues that they encounter during this journey.
Below are most common theses I heard from them: · We wanted to go to cloud to reduce our IT TCO, but it just increased instead. · Cloud is all about IT and we’re in business department – there is no value for us in a cloud. · We have big concerns regarding cybersecurity in cloud since we believe that our own infrastructure is more secured. · We might lose control over sensitive data if we’ll go to cloud. · We thought that cloud will improve our performance and services availability, but it became even worse. · We thought that microservices will improve the speed of changes, but it has declined because of its complexity. · Cloud migration takes ages.
All of that is false if you do the things right, but mistakes on any stage might cause serious issues to the business. On the other hand, just think of the following: · Your TCO might be significantly reduced, might be not, and even increased, but Sales Revenue to IT Costs rate will increase due to fast speed of changes, new services and customer satisfaction. · New Digital Services time-to-market depends on hardware purchase and delivery time, “reinventing the wheel” time and selected platform capabilities – all these limitations don’t exist in a cloud, so sometimes you can just plug in new service next day. · Your current infrastructure is always undersized or oversized – cloud is always rightsized. · Cloud is way more secured than your in-house infrastructure. · Some services are available just in cloud because they require daily updates and big data feedback for Machine Learning algorithms.
So, I tried to put together my thoughts on ideal Cloud Journey.
Do the things right, don’t do them wrong! And don’t hesitate to ask for help.
