W. Clay Moody is a seasoned cybersecurity professional with more than 21 years of experience in information technology and security. He has a rich background in academia, being a computer science educator, public speaker, researcher, and author. With a diverse military experience ranging from tactical to strategic levels, Moody is a multifaceted individual. He actively engages in cybersecurity capture the flag competitions, where he plays, designs challenges, and coaches teams. Moody will be retiring from military service and will be available from February 2021 onwards.
Moody holds an MS in Computer Networking from North Carolina State University, a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Clemson University, and a BS in Computer Engineering, also from Clemson University. His academic journey has equipped him with a strong foundation in technology and cybersecurity.
Throughout his career, Moody has held various roles in prestigious organizations. He served as a Research Scientist at the Army Cyber Institute at the United States Military Academy at West Point. Additionally, he worked as a CTF Challenge Developer at RunCode.Ninja, a Military Digital Service Expert at Defense Digital Service, and a CTF Challenge Builder at Counter Hack. Moody also had stints as an Assistant Professor at the United States Military Academy at West Point and as a US Army Fellow during his Ph.D. studies at Clemson University. He has worked in key positions at the United States Cyber Command, including as a Cyber Capabilities Engineer and a Computer Network Defense Planner for US Forces in Iraq. Moody's expertise was also utilized in roles such as Global Network Security Operation Center Supervisor at DISA, Information System Management Officer at the United States Army Pacific, and various signal and information management roles within different signal battalions.
