Five years ago, I stepped away from a whirlwind creative career at Nike. I thought I’d hit the ground running with all the energy in the world, but as the years went by (including two years of COVID-19), I slowly realised… I wasn’t running at all. I was on autopilot.

Let’s face it—rest feels like an indulgence in our “go-go-go-go” culture, especially when you’ve been in high-performance environments. But after pushing through burnout and fatigue, I decided to do something radical: NOTHING. No guilt. No agendas. Just me, a proper break, and the bliss of letting my brain be.

And what happened? Clarity. Focus. Motivation. It’s like my mind was recharged and hit the reset button I didn’t even know I needed. Now, I’m sharper, laser-focused, and ready to attack the next chapter with fresh eyes. I’ve even gone and redesigned NMP’s website! 🤓

For anyone who feels stuck, tired, or like you’re pushing through mud—let me tell you, resting is productive. You can’t run on empty. I made up these three stages: Rotate, Recharge, Rethink. Rotate out of your routine, recharge your mental and physical energy, and rethink how you want to move forward. And repeat immediately when your body is showing signs of fatigue!

It turns out that sometimes, doing nothing is the most critical work you can do.

If, like me, you think creative thinking is healthy thinking, then you'll be excited to know that scientists have discovered how we might stimulate creative thought in people.

What makes creativity so elusive as a thought process is that – it turns out – unlike most of our other thought processes, it can't be located in one place.

As the scientist in charge of this research says “There’s not a creativity cortex.”

Instead, creativity is fostered "across several scattered brain regions".

The news is that these scattered brain regions have been identified and located, meaning creative thoughts can potentially be 'stimulated', and creativity might be used to foster better mental health.

It's food for thought that fostering creativity is inherently healthy! 🧠
