Happy tracks. This polar bear made a beeline for the ice at the end of the season as Hudson Bay began to freeze. This was the moment they'd been waiting for. Ice means food. After some 5 months without substantial food, they were finally able to venture out and begin regaining the 150 kg or more they'd lost.

On shore, they'll lose a kg/day, so they need to be really fattened up from feeding on seals when melting ice forces them ashore in the summer. #polarbearsinternational #polarbear #Churchill

That moment when you realize a snowdtift is NOT a snowdrift. Polar bears, on really windy days, turn their butts to the wind and let the snow drift right over them. This can lead to some surprising encounters.

As humans, we forget that snow is really a blanket. It never gets cold underneath the snow! There's an entire world that lives beneath the snow in winter.
