Wei-Ju Chang

Wei-Ju Chang is a Senior Lecturer in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy at UNSW Sydney and an honorary Postdoctorate Research Fellow at Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRA).23 He is an Australia Physiotherapy Association Titled Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist with 25 years of clinical experience, specializing in complex musculoskeletal pain disorders and Men's health.2

  • Masters of Orthopaedics, Sports and Manual Physiotherapy from the University of South Australia, Australia

His research focuses on investigating physiological mechanisms of chronic pain development (including low back pain and post-surgical pain) and developing novel treatments for chronic pain.3 Dr. Chang is highly experienced in using neurophysiological techniques such as transcranial magnetic stimulation, electroencephalography, electromyography, and quantitative sensory testing.3

Dr. Chang has led clinical trials testing novel pain treatments, including pilot studies examining the effects of adding transcranial direct current stimulation and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation to strengthening exercises in knee osteoarthritis.3 He has published 30 peer-reviewed papers in high-impact journals such as Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, eLife, Pain, and Journal of Pain.3

Throughout his career, Dr. Chang has received several grants and scholarships, including an NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarship for his PhD research.12 He continues to engage in both research and clinical practice, maintaining a part-time clinical practice at Macarthur Physiotherapy.2
