#spinalcordinjuryawarenessmonth It’s wild to think that even in my current situation, I often find myself reminding people that I’m still paralyzed. It seems that once you reach a certain level of independence, people forget the challenges you continue to face. They don’t realize that your independence is the result of overcoming countless barriers that society has already put in your way. It’s frustrating to have to explain or remind others of a reality you live with every day—especially when they’ve found ways to ignore or avoid it.

September 1st marks the beginning of Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month💫
I’ve been living with a spinal cord injury for 12 years, the result of multiple gunshots to my abdomen. Over time, I’ve realized that no matter how life unfolds, I can only truly navigate it by first understanding and accepting myself.
The world isn’t always conscious enough to embrace who I am. That’s why it’s crucial for me to love every part of myself. This allows me to elevate in this life without seeking validation from those who can’t see beyond my abilities or the challenges I face.
“Love yourself enough to make the world adjust to you.”
