It's launch day 🚀🥳. DevClarity is publicly launched! Anyone can now sign up & start a free trial.

With this launch, we are announcing our campaign against DEVELOPMENT FOG.

Technical complexity, specialized expertise, remote work challenges, and more create a fog that obscures visibility for development leaders.

This is why DEVELOPMENT LEADERSHIP is harder than general leadership.

But here's our unique belief: dev leaders don't need more metrics. They need more guidance.

We've spent 1000 hours talking to computers, then we are promoted. Now, we have to focus on talking to people WITH THE additional challenge of development fog.

It's time you had a tool to help. Check us out! https://devclarity.ai

What we care about != what we measure.

Metrics are almost always proxies for what we care about. One of the most valuable things I read on this was in a book called "Working Backwards."

Bezos believes in written narratives to connect the metric to what we care about.

Let's say we want to pay more attention to our team's velocity this quarter. Why?

Have we added two more team members? If so, do we expect our velocity per member to decrease, increase, or stay the same?

Have we instead improved our SDLC process?

Do we have a more stable product?

All of these are different. We care about different things in each, even though we use relative velocity as a proxy. We may realize that velocity isn't what we want to measure after all.

So don't forget that what we care about is not the same thing as the metric we are measuring.
